Samsung Galaxy S24 to Feature Flat Display and 2,500 Nit Brightness

In recent years, Samsung has consistently moved up the release dates for its Galaxy flagship and foldable devices by a few weeks. Rumors surrounding the 2024 launch indicate a similar trend, with January 17 emerging as the likely date for the unveiling. Samsung appears to have confirmed this date, divulging additional details about pre-order and availability.

According to an official from Samsung Electronics, as reported by The Elec, the Galaxy S24 series is set to make its debut on January 17 at an Unpacked event in San Jose. Notably, this location choice, housing the headquarters of Apple and Google, is unprecedented for Samsung, suggesting a strategic collaboration with Google and heightened competition with Apple.

For context, the Galaxy S23's Unpacked event occurred on February 1 this year, and the Galaxy S22's event took place on February 9, 2022. Hence, the Galaxy S24's launch event is being expedited by 15 days.

Post-event, Samsung plans to commence pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series immediately. In certain regions, including Korea, pre-orders are scheduled to run from January 19 to 25, followed by a pre-sale launch between January 26 and 30. General availability of the Galaxy S24 lineup is slated to begin from January 30.

Leaks over the past months have already unveiled key specifications of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its smaller counterparts. Renders indicate that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will resemble the Galaxy S23 Ultra but with a flat display. Notably, the screen is rumored to achieve a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, positioning it as one of the brightest panels available. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ will feature an iPhone-style frame and various design modifications.

Samsung's ambition with the Galaxy S24 series is to create the "smartest AI phones ever," aiming to surpass the AI capabilities of the Pixel 8. Leveraging the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the phone may offer on-device generative AI, with considerations for integrating ChatGPT or Google Bard. Samsung has already revealed one AI feature, the AI Live Translate Call, providing real-time text and audio translations during phone calls. Based on these AI-driven features, Samsung anticipates strong sales for its 2024 flagship, with reports suggesting a target of shipping 35 million Galaxy S24 units in 2024, marking a 10% increase from the S23 series.
